“Truth is like the sun. You can shut it out for a time, but it ain’t going away.”
― Elvis Presley
There are a lot of people who actually think that there is no truth. Most of us know that is just silly, but some actually believe this.
In order for the statement to be true there would have to be at least one truth, but if there is one truth the statement can’t be true.
There are two main types of truths. One is subjective truth, an example of subjective truth is that “I like cheesecake”. That statement is true as long as the speaker actually likes cheesecake. My husband on the other hand HATES cheesecake. There is nothing wrong with that. In fact that just means there is more cheesecake for me. My waistline may have a problem with that, but logically nothing is wrong here because the truth in each sentence depends on the subject’s taste buds.
The other kind of truth is objective truth. Fire is hot, is an example of objective truth. It doesn’t matter what your particular taste are in that truth. If you refuse to believe that fire is hot you will get hurt. You can not simply disagree with it and make it go away.
What kind of truth is religion? My religion says that God created the universe. The universe isn’t a matter of taste. It either is or it isn’t real. Since we are able to think about the universe, we have to believe it is real. Now if God did not create the universe then my beliefs are wrong. Simply thinking that God made the universe doesn’t make it so. So religion is an objective truth, having millions of people who disagree with me doesn’t change the matter one bit. I am either wrong or right. There is no “It’s true for you and not for me about it.”.
