Houston Pastor Reportedly Refused to Host Funeral for 93-Y-O Member Because She Didn’t Tithe Enough

   I am so angry right now!  A 93-year-old woman attended the same church all her life until she had to go to a nursing home. During part of that time, she was in a coma.  Her preacher was asked to perform her funeral service for her when she died. He said no. His reason was that she wasn’t up to date with her tithing!   I guess he wanted her to wake up from her coma, and walk to church, and pay him with money she probably no longer had because of her nursing home bills.

Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.  For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.

Everyone who goes to church wants to trust their preacher/teacher, but with all the crazy stuff going on in the Church today, it is clear that we have to be watchful! There was only one perfect preacher that has ever graced this Earth and his essential teachings can be found in his book, The Bible. We must have some grace when judging what our preachers do and say, but we must also be sure that the preacher is preaching about the Christ that is found in the Bible. Those preachers who deny the basic tenets of the Bible, who are teaching for the love of money rather than the love of Christ, or whose moral behavior crosses the line so deeply that they should be in jail, or become proud of their sin, should not be leading Christians.

If you are concerned about your pastor’s ability to lead fellow Christians, nicely and with respect have a talk with him, bringing appropriate Bible verses with you.
If you are still troubled by the pastor when your talk is over, go to a couple of elders in the Church, and talk to them, and if they agree with you set up a meeting with your preacher, and bring along the elders that you talked to.  If the elders are as concerned as you, then it is time to go to the congregation as a group.

If nothing works then pray, and study the Bible until you have decided if the issue is one that can possibly be overlooked with grace, or if it warrants looking for a more Biblical Church to attend.
