21† “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord! ’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 On that day many will say to Me, ‘Lord, Lord, didn’t we prophesy in Your name, drive out demons in Your name, and do many miracles in Your name? ’ 23 Then I will announce to them, ‘I never knew you! Depart from Me, you lawbreakers!’
There are so many people who have dedicated their lives to a false God. What’s worse is that many of them have been deceived to think that they are following the God of the Bible, when it is just a pale imitation pasted together from out of context Bible verses, and feelings passed off as facts.
If someone told you that they knew Sting, you would assume that they were referring to musician that used to wear a yellow and black striped jacket. What if you continued to listen, and it turned out that “Sting” was a 5 year old boy, who makes dogs howl every time he tries to sing. Would you be looking for concert tickets from “Sting”? No that would be silly. It is clear that the person talking, doesn’t know the Sting that can put on a good musical show.
Would it help at all if the 5 year old boy could sing? Not really, he is still a 5 year old boy, he still wouldn’t be the person that you would be willing to pay big bucks to hear sing.
The singer Sting is a very particular person. With very particular attributes. If a fan heard someone talking about someone named Sting, who didn’t have any kids, or did not ever play with a group called the Police they would know that it was the wrong Sting.
We have much the same thing going on with Christ. Millions of people say they follow Christ, but their Christ is quite different from the one portrayed in the fullness of the Bible. Many are just talked about as a God of love, but what about his other attributes? Does their Jesus practice justice? Does he value truth? Or are those other Jesus’s just ear tickling pale imitations of the Real Jesus, who has the power to save? Don’t let man fool you into doing the will of a pale imitation of God.
