Acts 17:11 Now these Jews were more noble than those in Thessalonica; they received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so.
I was going to write a blog about a widely known preacher that many believe has anti-biblical teaching. I realized that I had not researched him enough, and anything that I say about him would be rumors, which would make me no better than he is.
It would be next to impossible to research all of the unbiblical preachers in the world today. There are a lot of itchy ears in the world today, and no shortage of people who are willing to scratch them. There is something that we can do, and that is know the real Word of God so well, that no teacher can twist is so out of shape that no one will be able to recognize it.
There is an old episode that I remember of a show called Three’s Company. Two room mates eaves dropped on a third’s phone conversation. After hearing what Chrissy had to say they were convinced that she was pregnant. When that wasn’t the case at all, someone else was the pregnant person. What followed was funny on the show, but an illustration of what can happen when people only hear half of a conversation. Things get all messed up.
That is what happens when you read only bits and pieces of the Bible. Anyone can find verses that taken out of context mean something totally different then the author intended. If we love God the way we say we do, we will want to know all that can possibly be known about him. There is only one surefire way to do that, and that is to prayerfully read the entire Bible. Sometimes bits and pieces of the Bible are necessary, but don’t just trust the person who is feeding you these verses, read the entire chapter at least! This even goes for me. I will do my best to never say anything unbiblical, but all teachers say that, not everyone means it.
