Do you have enemies?

Unfortunately unless you are preaching to the choir, you can not be an outspoken Christian anymore, without someone saying something nasty.  I can’t count how many times judgmental people have yelled at me for judging them, nor can I count the number of times non-Christians have made up some dirty rotten lies about me. I recall one person that from the moment  I identified myself as a Christian (I was just announcing my presence) he made up some of the rankest lies about me! He didn’t even try to pretend to tolerate me.

Matthew 5:11-12

“Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. 12  Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.”

I would be lying if I said I enjoy being treated like trash because of my beliefs, but I know it will be worth it in the end. But I would absolutely hate it if I were never persecuted at all, especially when I am in a forum with non-Christians. I would wonder what I was doing wrong.

John 15:18-21  “If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you. 19 If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. 20 Remember the word that I said to you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours. 21 But all these things they will do to you on account of my name, because they do not know him who sent me.

Jesus told us that we would be persecuted if we were of him, but loved if we were  of the world. If you have blended in with the world so well that the world likes you, that means the world sees you as one of the world, instead of belonging to Christ.
