20 I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. (Galatians 2 : 20 – ESV)
Some people seem to have a cheap grace that gives them license to sin. This should not be! Christ purpose in dying wasn’t to help us become better sinners! It was to cleanse us from our sins. While our sins are forgiven, we still dishonor Christ when we sin, and we damage the way that non-Christians look at Christ. I shudder every time I hear of a preacher getting caught doing something Christ has said we should not do on the news. Now imagine how this affects non-Christians when they hear of people who represent their church doing things like messing with little boys. It makes Christ look terrible!
When we become Christians we should cease to live for ourselves, and live for Christ. Yes we will still sin, no one on Earth can totally escape that, but as we learn about him, worship him, and draw closer to him our sins should become fewer and fewer and our light should get brighter. If this is not happening, something is wrong.
