2 Timothy 2:15
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
One of the best ways of getting to the truth is to go to the source of the information. Yes your preacher can tell you about the Bible, but how do you know he is telling the truth? We would all like to think he is, but there are many preachers out there who are saying things completely contrary to each other, so some of us are definitely trusting the wrong preachers.
According to textual critics the Bible is 99.5% textually pure. We have more reason to trust the words of the Bible then we have to trust writings of Plato, Aristotle, Caesar, Homer and other notable historic texts.
If you believe that the God of the Bible is real, that he created the universe and everything in it, and that he loves you enough to die for you. You should love him enough to read his words to you. On judgement day you won’t be able to say well my preacher said….. Because God will say that you should have listened to God instead of man.
