Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me.

Matthew 5:101-11
10 Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,

for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

11 “Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. 12 Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Have you ever been persecuted because you are a Christian? As of now the amount of persecution Christians face in most of the Western world is mild, there are places in this world where being a Christian can mean a death sentence.    But I am not talking about that type of persecution.   Have you been called names because of your faith? Have you been treated like an idiot simply because you are a Christian even though the same person who thinks you are an idiot now thought you were brilliant before you admitted to being a Christian?  That kind of persecution exist here in America a lot.
Heaven knows I have faced it even in my own house.
In this country where many people think that singing songs about God Blessing the USA are evil, but killing unborn children is somehow heroic, I have to wonder about Christians who have never faced persecution.  If you never come in contact with non-Christians, how are you following God’s command to witness to the lost?   If you do come in contact with non-Christians, but do not face any kind of persecution, do they know you are a Christian?

If you do come in contact with non-christians who have never treated you differently because you are a Christian, you are extremely lucky!  But get ready…

2 Timothy 3:10-12

New International Version (NIV)

10 You, however, know all about my teaching, my way of life, my purpose, faith, patience, love, endurance, 11 persecutions, sufferings—what kinds of things happened to me in Antioch, Iconium and Lystra, the persecutions I endured. Yet the Lord rescued me from all of them. 12 In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted,
